Join award winning professional basketmaker and willow grower Wendy Jensen to learn the “way of the willow.” This Polly Hill Arboretum workshop on Martha’s Vineyard begins with an introduction to the versatile willow plant, Salix. The many uses and the growing of willow will be discussed, then participants will build their own 4-5’ decorative “Flower Tower” from willow rods. Pairing, a willow basketmaking technique will be used to create the flower tower. This openwork of weaving allows the plants to grow through and around the tower. No experience is necessary, although some hand strength is required. Participants should bring hand pruners and garden gloves. Pre-register, space is limited to 10. $125/$100 for PHA members, materials fee included. Bring a brown bag lunch. For more information, or to register, visit www.pollyhillarboretum.org.
